MAC x Stranger Things The Void Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

[ad_1]

The Void

MAC The Void Eyeshadow x 8 Palette ($45.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that included three matte shades, which were blendable and easy to work with, albeit a little powdery or sheerer, and five shimmer eyeshadows, which were less fun to work with. The shimmers were thicker, denser, and as a result, stiffer and harder to blend out evenly.

Ingredients

The Mothergate

The Mothergate is a darker, reddish-brown based duochrome with shimmer that shifted from blue to green. It had more of a satin-like sheen in reality, as the shimmer seemed to subdue within a few minutes of application.

  • Opaque color coverage
  • Moderately dense, somewhat thick texture that was stiffer
  • Doesn’t pick up evenly with brush, best applied with fingertips
  • Harder to blend edges of darker shades due to texture
  • Average-wearing (seven to eight hours of wear, prone to fading)

  • Anastasia Sponsored (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar).

  • ColourPop Wishful Winking (P, $4.50) is lighter, cooler (90% similar).
  • Tom Ford Beauty Photosynthesex #2 (PiP, ) is more shimmery (90% similar).

  • Natasha Denona Orion (105DC) (PiP, $29.00) is more shimmery, cooler (80% similar).

These are likely to be very similar shades based on our duping algorithm.

Formula Overview

$20.00/0.05 oz. – $400.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “12-hour wear” with “silky smooth glide” and a “wet-like metallic texture.” The pigmentation is supposed to have “one-swipe saturation,” and most of the shades had nearly opaque to opaque coverage but a couple were more semi-opaque and buildable in coverage. The texture was lightly creamy, dense, and physically thicker than the average powder eyeshadow, and I found the thickness made them a little hard to work with, especially using a dry brush.

I had the best luck getting smooth, even coverage that didn’t emphasize my lid texture with a lightly dampened brush or fingertips (though I preferred the precision a brush offered). Some shades looked more metallic and “molten” while others had a subdued sheen (which didn’t seem fitting with the “Dazzleshadow Extreme” name, and on that note, these were not chocked full of sparkle in most instances, like Dazzleshadows are). I had faint creasing beginning between eight and 10 hours with most shades, while the color would be still be 70-75% intact after 12-hours of wear.

The Void

The Void is a soft, medium black with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It was particularly prone to fallout, though very easy to blend, so someone who tends to prefer a very soft black may enjoy it for its sheerness.

  • Medium, somewhat pigmentation
  • Soft, finely-milled consistency, moderately powdery
  • Blendable but prone to fallout and sheering out
  • Average-wearing (seven and a half hours)

Formula Overview

$20.00/0.05 oz. – $400.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “pillow-soft, matte colour” that is “highly blendable” with “unbelievable slip” that has “stay-true colour” that doesn’t fade, crease, or dry out the lids. The majority of the shades were pigmented, though a few were more semi-opaque and buildable.

The texture was soft, smooth, and slightly powdery in the pan–softer and more yielding than the standard MAC matte eyeshadow–but had more glide for better adhesion and blendability on bare skin. The eyeshadows stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

They’re thinner and a bit more powdery than the long-discontinued Matte2 formula, though it was more like that finish than the current, matte finish in the brand’s permament range of eyeshadows. They were easier and more forgiving to work with than a lot of MAC’s eyeshadows, so they were improved and a nice addition to the brand’s range (they’re also available as pan-only for less).

  • Opaque color coverage
  • Moderately dense, somewhat thick texture that was stiffer
  • Doesn’t pick up evenly with brush, best applied with fingertips
  • Harder to blend edges of darker shades due to texture
  • Average-wearing (eight hours of wear, prone to fading)
